Trend alert: Mindful beauty

With the gap between beauty and wellness closing, more and more of our everyday beauty products offer the chance to go beyond taking care of how we look on the outside. They offer a way to de-stress and practice self-care so we can glow from the inside too. It’s certainly one beauty trend we can all get on board with.

Mindful breathing

Feeling anxious? Take a few long, deep breaths to help you relax. Even better, breath in a blend of essential oils such as Natio Focus On Tension Roll-On. Roll the blend of peppermint, eucalyptus and marjoram essential oils on to the inside of your wrists, rub together, inhale for a count of three and exhale for five, then let it all go.

Detoxify

Exfoliating your body is a healthy way to encourage detoxification, boost circulation, and generally make you feel invigorated. Try dry body brushing before showering, or take your ritual into the shower with a reviving scrub such as Sukin Energising Body Scrub - Coconut and Coffee.

Massage

Most of us are unlikely to get a massage nearly as often as we would like but we can mimic the feeling at least a little bit with the help of a massage oil such as Pure Fiji Exotic Bath & Body Oil. This nourishing blend of oils absorbs quickly and rejuvenates and nourishes the skin.

Light a candle

With an increasing awareness of just how good meditation is for our mind and body, why not try a little candle gazing? Dim the lights, get comfortable and lose yourself in the flickering flame as you make it the object of your focus. Even better, make it a scented one to add to the feeling of tranquility. For the feeling of a warm ocean breeze drifting over you, light up Ecoya’s Summer Escape Coconut Milk & Sea Salt Limited Edition Madison Jar.

Mist your worries away

Feeling a little low? Essential oils of jasmine and rose are thought to provide soothing comfort for depression and anxiety, while chamomile calms. You’ll find them in Labonics Radiance Mist Toner, which you can spritz all over your face whenever you need a pick-me-up and it will double as a dose of hydration for your skin.

Hand in hand

Sometimes, taking time out to do something as simple as applying a beautifully scented hand-cream, can release tension and balance our mind. Try a delicious one such as Linden Leaves Clementine & Basil Nourishing Hand Cream, and begin your self-soothing massage by clasping your fingers and rubbing the bottoms of your palms together in a circular motion. Without unclasping your hands, use your thumb to rub the area under the thumb of the opposite hand, working outwards in circular motions then repeat with the other hand. Next, gently tug each finger one by one from the base up and massage over the back of each hand.

Bedtime bliss

Sleep is absolutely vital to our wellbeing so anything we can do to make it as deep and as peaceful as possible, will be of great benefit. Aromatherapy is a powerful way to trigger responses in the brain and lavender in particular is incredibly relaxing. Try incorporating this calming essential oil into your evening routine. Absolute Essential Lavender True can either be diffused or applied to pulse points before bedtime.

Skin ritual

Our skincare routine offers a wonderful opportunity to create a little ‘me-time’ and practice mindfulness in our very own bathroom. Instead of rushing through each step, focus on breathing as you slowly massage each product into your skin and enjoy the glow it generates. Glow Lab Facial Oil is an enriching treat for the skin. A blend of vitamin E, jojoba, marula and avocado oil delivers the essential fatty acids needed to brighten and even skin tone.
