Going beyond QR codes, Pacific Magazines have launched their own app for iPhones, iPads, Android smartphone and tablet devices this week called Genie, which helps instantly connect readers to integrated online content, multimedia and augmented reality.
Genie has been specially customised for Pacific Magazines to take the reader experience to the next level,” says Pacific Magazines commercial director Peter Zavecz. Genie instantly provides off-the-page multimedia experiences – including video, social media, maps, click to call, competitions and calendar reminders – and completes the loop for our advertisers via seamlessly integrating offline and online campaigns.”
The Genie app works by reading invisible codes embedded on the page which link to online multimedia content. After downloading the free Genie app from iTunes Apple Store or Google Play, users will be able to scan digital watermarks found on the page either via a Genie logo or copy.
Pacific Magazines have been trialling Digimarc’s hover technology since January, but decided to make their own app.
Digimarc has delivered for us and for our advertisers – but we felt the need to build on our learnings and make it our own,” says Pacific Magazines business manager Jahzeel Omar. Genie will now be used across Pacific Magazines’ entire portfolio. It’s sharper, more user-friendly and it offers better integration to social media including Tumblr, Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter.”
