The best in beauty at New Zealand Fashion Week

Back for its 13th year, New Zealand Fashion Week once again demonstrated why the country continues to make a name for itself in the fashion world with its huge talent of innovative local designers. The only international fashion event in New Zealand, NZFW played host to collections by top designers including Trelise Cooper, Zambesi, Stolen Girlfriends Club, Kate Sylvester and Karen Walker.

Innovation and unique styling wasn’t only witnessed through the clothing – make-up and hair directors were seen having lots of fun with the different beauty looks. From conehead-style coiled updos at Trelise Cooper to heavily coloured punk eyes at Stolen Girlfriends Club, it seemed that experimentation was the order of the day for both hair and make-up this year. Contrasting this, fresh faces were also spotted on the Kate Sylvester and Twenty-seven Names runways.

Two big beauty trends that were noticed throughout the week were bold red lips and MIA eyeliner. At Helen Cherry, Trelise Cooper and Zambesi, the lips were the focal point of the beauty look – with the colour trend seen embracing a deeper shade of red. Normally a regular at fashion weeks, 2013 NZFW had a noticeable absence of eyeliner. Think Lela Jacobs, NYNE, Twenty-seven Names and Helen Cherry – where models strutted their stuff sans liner. However, it wasn’t completely discarded – with subtle green-coloured eyeliner spotted at Zambesi and Karen Walker, while Kate Sylvester’s models featured bold black eyeliner flicks.
