Ten years after Jennifer Hawkins claimed the Miss Universe title, Newcastle is set to have another contestant in the running to take out the global beauty pageant. 21-year-old Tegan Martin has snapped up the crown of Miss Universe Australia, joining previous winners Erin McNaught, Rachael Finch and Jesinta Campbell.
The student and model has been first runner-up in the competition twice in 2011 and 2013, and was finally crowned the winner on Friday night in Melbourne.
I thought I was going to give it one more shot, third time lucky. I was inundated with the support of family and friends to try again, they are the reason why I am here today,” says Martin.
The judges that crowned Miss Universe Australia included Gina Liano from The Real Housewives Of Melbourne, Olympic swimming champion Liesel Jones, and choreographer Jason Coleman.
As the winner of the Australian leg of the competition, Martin will be the face of Elucent Spring/Summer 2014 campaign. She will head to the global Miss Universe pageant later in the year.
