Bauer Media Group's proposal to purchase five APN magazines in New Zealand has been given the go-ahead by the Commerce Commission.
The acquisition plan was cleared on Friday, with the Commerce Commission deciding that Bauer's purchase of New Zealand Woman's Weekly, Simply You, Simply You Living, the New Zealand Listener and Creme would not substantially lessen competition in the magazine market.
"The merged firm would continue to face competition from the suppliers of other magazine titles and alternative platforms, such as television, newspapers and the internet," explains the commission's chairman Dr Mark Berry.
It was announced in December that the commission would be delaying a decision on the deal until January.
