YouTube channel Shaaanxo vlogger Shannon Harris hit a milestone this week, becoming the second New Zealander to hit one million subscribers.
The 21-year-old began posting make-up tutorials as a hobby, with vlogging now her fulltime job.
"I can't really comprehend the numbers ... I can't imagine that many people watching my face. I could see it was coming but when it happened I was just speechless. It was like a part of me thought it was never going to happen,” Harris told Stuff.
"I found out first thing in the morning, as it happened overnight, and my heart skipped a beat. To know there are over 1 million people from around the world interested in what I do is just so amazing. I remember getting 100 subscribers and nearly crying."
When Harris started, she didn’t realise it was possible to earn a living off YouTube, but the popularity of her channel has given her many opportunities - including the possibility to launch her own brand, xoBeauty, where she sells make-up brushes and fake eyelashes. She is also interested in expanding into jewellery.
The only other New Zealander who has more than one million subscribers on YouTube is Jamie Curry from Jamie’s World.
