bdBLOG: Lengthy locks

Anyone who’s seen our On Trial This Week articles will know that I have long hair. Having long hair, to me, means luscious thick locks tumbling over my shoulders with a not-too-perfect wave and plenty of body. Really, I just imagine myself as Whitney Port. The truth, unfortunately, more often involves a hair tie and perhaps a couple of bobby pins used to construct a pretty unspectacular topknot atop my head. See: On trial this week - May 25.

Australian Hairdresser of the Year Joey Scandizzo has now come out and said what all us long-locked women are afraid to admit: It spends the whole time being tied back off their face because that’s the easiest thing to do,” Scandizzo told the SMH.

We’ve had long, layered styles for women around since the start of 2000 and there’s only so long you can wear that style before everyone gets tired of it,” Scandizzo explains. Long hair’s boring because the thing is, people want that long hair but they never actually do anything with it.”

OK, Scandizzo, you make some good points. I can feel you sitting there with your Hairdresser of the Year award, silently judging my ponytail … But I just don’t think I could ever pluck up the courage to have my hair cut off.

Responding to this argument of fear, Scandizzo says it’s about working with your hairdresser to find a style that works for you. We’ve done a lot of these kind of makeovers in the salon and to get a chick to cut their hair off isn’t easy, but once they’ve made the move they all say they prefer it,” he goes on.

He makes some good points, he really does. But I’m still not going to cut it off anytime soon.

What do you guys think? Would you or have you cut off your long locks?
