Mecca ramps up its Australian offerings

There may have been much hype surrounding the launch of Sephora onto Australian soil earlier this month, but Mecca Cosmetica is taking steps to ensure it retains its position as a powerhouse in beauty retail Down Under.

In November, Mecca opened a new 2500-square-foot flagship store in Melbourne, with plans for the beauty company to have 50 stores across Australia by the end of 2015.

The new store features emerging brands and a stand-alone NARS boutique - a first for Australian consumers. The store is expected to rake in $US4 million in sales for its first year of trading.

“This store is a strong statement to our customers about how much we have evolved,” says founder Jo Horgan. “It shows how significant the potential for a stand-alone boutique in a High Street environment is.”
