Olivia Palermo named beauty creative director

Renowned for her polished, modern sense of style, Olivia Palermo is an unsurprisingly popular choice for brand collaborations in the fashion world. The former reality TV starlet and New York socialite can now add cosmetics creator to her impressive resume, after being named the creative director of Ciaté.

Chief executive officer and founder Charlotte Knight says enlisting Palermo was a no-brainer: “[Palermo] resonates with us as a brand because she is never afraid to experiment with her look.”

Palermo’s role within the company will coincide with its launch into the world of colour cosmetics and she will remain in the position until early 2016. Palermo will provide creative input, as well as assist in the creation of four make-up and nail collections.

The 18-piece collections will feature the likes of face compacts, lipsticks infused with collagen boosters and suede-textured eyeshadows. Price points will range from US$22-$45, and products will be housed in sleek leather packaging with gold accents to align with Palermo’s style star status.

Palermo is determined to be very hands-on. She explains: “ I’ve been involved in the colours, packaging, marketing and formulas and working very closely with Charlotte to make sure that everything is to the detail of how I like it.”

While Palermo may have no background in cosmetics, she has dwelled upon her experiences within fashion. She says: “Everything is a learning process and educating yourself on beauty is different than fashion, but they both go hand in hand.”

Olivia’s collaboration with Ciaté will launch globally in May at Sephora.
