Editor makes Forbes' most powerful list

In a move that reveals the growing presence of female leaders in media-related roles, Forbes Magazine has included a handful of the industry’s brightest stars in its annual Most Powerful Women list.

Alongside a slew of singing and acting sensations, the top 100 list featured current Guardian UK editor-in-chief Katherine Viner.

Viner’s illustrious career in the field of journalism has taken her across the globe, from the UK to the US and Australia, where she was editor for the launch of Guardian Australia.

Today, her position as the Guardian UK’s first ever female editor earned her the number 80 of 100.

Fellow leading ladies featured in the list included Oprah Winfrey, Anna Wintour and Arianna Huffington. German chancellor Angela Merkel clocked in at number one, with Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg reaching number eight, and YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki number nine.
