Apple is at the top of the game when it comes to digital developments, with the company’s latest announcement confirming that position. Fresh off the back of news that Apple will be launching a music streaming service, Apple Music, the tech giant is releasing its own news app.
Collating content from 20 high-profile publishers, the app will feature news from companies including Condé Nast, ESPN, The New York Times, Hearst, Time Inc., CNN and Bloomberg. It is expected to arrive with the next iOS update.
The articles will appear visually in the layout of a magazine and benefit from the immediacy of a digital platform. Articles will incorporate photos, galleries, and audio and video elements.
Apple’s senior vice president of internet software and services Eddy Cue says the app attempts to provide easy access to news in a simple format. “News seamlessly delivers the articles you want to read in a beautiful and uncluttered format, while respecting your privacy, because Apple doesn’t share your personal data,” says Cue.
