Which digital publication is faring best?

The latest report from Nielsen Online Ratings has been published - revealing a top ten that is reminiscent of previous months. The leading digital entity was news.com.au, followed by smh.com.au, ABC news, Daily Mail Australia, ninemsn news websites, The Guardian, Yahoo! 7 News, The Age, Herald Sun and BBC. News.com.au remained in a strong lead, despite its audience dropping from 4.106 million last month to 3.883 million.

Sitting outside of the top ten was the much-hyped local incarnation of US news site Huffington Post Australia. The Nielsen report revealed the site’s release has not had much effect on the local traffic to the website. More specifically, numbers rose minimally from 1.039m in July to 1.058m in August, with the website currently sitting outside the top ten news sites within the nation.

Despite a distinctly Australian focus on content, local audience numbers for Huffington Post have dropped year-on-year. In 2014, there was a recorded Australian audience of 1.681 million which has decreased to around the 1 million mark recently.
