Following news earlier this week on changes to the Woman’s Day lifestyle team, its sister title Yours has some news of its own - with freelance journalist and blogger Sarah Sayers appointed the fashion and beauty editor.
Effective immediately, Sayers will be working Tuesday to Thursdays, while also maintaining her blog Sarah What. To find out more, we chat to Sayers about her career, the new gig, and how she will juggle working on her blog and the magazine.
Can you tell me a little bit about your career history?
My writing has taken me full circle. I began as a digital intern for Madison magazine at 54 Park St back in 2011 before later taking on the role of fashion and features writer at The Knot. During this time my blog (Sarah What) began to grow and I knew I wanted to spend more time on it. [This led to my] decision to become a full-time freelance lifestyle writer which has allowed me to create stories for sites like PRIMPED, The Knot, Missy Confidential and even Daily Mail Australia while producing daily content on my blog. I’ve now taken on the new and exciting role of beauty and fashion editor at Yours magazine (Bauer) which is again at 54 Park St, bringing me full circle.
What appealed to you about working at Yours?
Aside from being very passionate about beauty and fashion, I love that this role allows me to inspire beautiful Australian women, who are over the age of 50, to spend more time spoiling themselves and experimenting with fashion and beauty trends.
What will your role involve?
I’ll be creating informative and fun content fortnightly that spans over eight+ pages. This involves translating the latest fashion trends into wearable looks as well as writing beauty features and how-tos, interviewing key beauty industry experts and keeping our readers up to date on the latest product launches.
What are you most excited about the position?
I’m excited to work with a really fun and experienced team, to trial and hand pick the very best beauty products to recommend to Yours readers and to create really stunning and inspiring fashion spreads.
Will you continue working on your blog?
Great question! Yes! I’m really proud of Sarah What and all of the beauty content I publish on there weekly. I’ve learnt so much from a digital perspective from working on my own site over the last couple of years, I’m excited to keep building upon that.
How will you manage to juggle the two roles?
I’ll have pieces scheduled to go live during the week on Sarah What that I’ve written and curated over the weekend, that way I can give 100 per cent to my role at Yours. It’s just about being extra organised!
