Twitter steps up with curated content

2016 already looks set to be a year of triumphs for the Twittersphere, with the app announcing a surge in developments for the next few months.

Just today Twitter launched the curated stories platform Moments. A brand-sponsored version will be rolled out shortly, but for now the original release is a compilation of important stories of the moment. The app has partnered with a handful of publications for Moments including ABC News, AFL, BuzzFeed Australia, Channel V Hits, NRL, Scoopla, The Project and This is Amplify.

Twitter Moments global curation lead Andrew Fitzgerald explains the project: “Moments is designed to bring you the best of Twitter in an instant. Twitter is already showing you what’s happening right now, we want to help you connect to the best things that are happening right now even more quickly. We’re thinking about Moments as a new format of mobile storytelling so we’re trying to give each Tweet the opportunity to really shine in this experience.”

Moments has the potential to increase the already booming number of advertisers proving enduring fans of the platform, with Twitter Australia MD Karen Stocks calling the nation the “growth engine” for the Asia-Pacific region. Twitter has doubled its number of advertisers globally reaching 130,000 - in Australia there has been a 300 per cent growth in advertisers utilising the platform for consumer connections.

Stocks explains: “From a global perspective we benched $2.2 billion in 2015, which was 58 per cent year-on-year growth, which makes Twitter the fastest growing multimillion-dollar ad business in the world. Outside of the US that number was even higher at 69 per cent, and whilst I can't give the specific Australian numbers, what I can say is that those numbers were even higher again.”
