The Sydney Morning Herald has this morning revealed it has appointed Judith Whelan as its new editor as part of its ongoing editorial restructure.
The second female editor appointed in the newspaper's history, The Sydney Morning Herald editor-in-chief Darren Goodsir says Whelan was a clear choice for the role. Whelan will oversee the editorial restructure that aims to increase the paper's strength in digital.
Whelan has a rich career in newspapers. Currently the Herald's news director in charge of editorial operations, she has also been the Saturday editor of the The Sydney Morning Herald and editor of Good Weekend magazine.
"Judith is an inspirational and driven newsroom leader who understands implicitly the Herald's core mission to provide quality, independent and original journalism to an increasingly digital audience. I am thrilled with this appointment," says Goodsir.
