Former Total Girl editor Amanda Nicholls has set her sights on the parenting market with the launch of Entertain My Tribe – a social media platform for parents. Entertain My Tribe is the combination of a personal blog and platform – a space where parents (including Nicholls) can retell stories, as well as discuss subjects from family-friendly eating spots, to recommendations for playgroup, and dance classes. Currently the concept spans across Facebook and Instagram only, with the launch of a website in development for which Nicholls will utilise contributors.
Nicholls explains to Mumbrella about what spurred the launch: “We relocated to the Blue Mountains, and I had a year of maternity leave up my sleeve with my two girls. I wanted to get out and meet new people and find ways to entertain the kids at the same time, and I found myself wishing that there was something simple that could tell me where the good places to eat with kids were, where the best clubs and classes to join were, what were the popular activities and attractions and when were the kid-friendly events in town?”
As for the concept behind Entertain My Tribe, Nicholls explains: “The saying ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ was very inspirational when developing the concept for Entertain My Tribe. We are hoping to find tribes from all over Australia so that when other families find themselves in a position like we were in, moving to a new area or holidaying in a new place and looking for ways to keep the tribe happy and entertained, they have a resource to refer to.”
