With beauty and lifestyle director Alexis Teasdale leaving to go on maternity leave, Cosmopolitan is delighted to welcome her temporary replacement Sally Hunwick to the team. Hunwick is an experienced beauty journalist who has previously worked across titles including DOLLY and Harper’s BAZAAR. She moves across to Cosmo from The Intermedia Group. Hunwick sat down with BD to discuss her new role:
What attracted you to the role?
It’s Cosmo! I have always loved the Cosmo brand. It’s so fun, entertaining and full of great insight for women. One of my big claims to fame is that I was the first ever university intern at Cosmo Australia. Mia Freedman was the editor at the time, she suggested I come in (OK, after I begged) and from the moment I stepped into the office I knew I wanted to work on magazines. I have freelanced for Cosmopolitan many times in the past but I have never worked on staff – when the opportunity came up, I was really thrilled to take on the challenge.
What will the role entail?
I will be taking over the reins from beauty and lifestyle director Alexis Teasdale while she enjoys her maternity leave with her new baby. With the help of the divine beauty and lifestyle editor Cassidy Loane (who I am really looking forward to working with!), I will be covering Cosmo’s beauty and lifestyle pages.
Will you be working full time?
Nearly. I will work Monday to Thursdays at the Cosmo office. On Fridays, I will be with my three-year-old son, Elliot, which will be a big treat.
What are you most excited about getting stuck into?
I can’t wait to be back at 54 Park Street – it has been a while! And I’m thrilled to be working with Cosmo editor Claire Askew and her team. I can’t wait to get stuck into all the latest and greatest in skin, hair, makeup, nails – actually, everything really – bring it on!
