This December, American beauty magazine Allure is stepping into new territory with the launch of its first augmented reality issue. Starring Gigi Hadid on the cover, the magazine coincides with the launch of the Allure Unbound app – a digital venture that sees readers able to experience a host of interactive features found in the magazine.
Opening up a world of possibilities for where magazines could head, Allure Unbound sees people able to take a selfie alongside Hadid, shop the collaborations, or view behind-the-scenes shoots. All features can also easily be posted to readers’ social media channels.
Discussing the launch, publisher Agnes Chapski tells Fashionista: "We know she's multi-screening while she's reading the magazine. The ability to provide that to the consumer so that every time she gets an issue she's going to have a new discovery and a deeper level with her is just really exciting.”
Allure editor-in-chief Michelle Lee adds: ”We're really just scratching the surface right now. We've talked about doing a truly shoppable issue, we can do truly 360-degree video, and it's really different from other things that are out there because the experience is very immediate and you can see inside the page, which is cool."
