Tell us about your background in the skincare industry – what inspired you to start Prologic?

I trained as a beauty therapist in 1999, and worked hands on with clients until I sold my clinic in 2014. During this time I continued to up skill and spent the last 9 years in my business focusing on advanced skin treatments - helping clients with skin disorders and advanced anti-aging. In 2011/2012 I was named NZ Therapist of the Year and in 2013/2014 my clinic was named runner up for NZ Clinic of the Year. Prologic was born out of my strive to deliver exceptional results, with high quality ingredients and clean formulations. I was feeling a bit despondent with the products I was working with, I knew what results I wanted to see with my clients but I just wasn't getting them. After studying cosmetic chemistry in 2009, it became obvious that to get the results I wanted, I needed to re-invent the wheel with how products were formulated - 2 years later Prologic was born.

Why is it important to avoid cheap, common ingredients and invest in high-quality skincare?

I always ask my stockists "what does the skin need function"? This question is the basis of how Prologic is formulated. If the skin doesn't need  it to function then why put it in the formulation? Our ethos of having as many ingredients as possible, that have a direct effect on cells and systems and very little that don't, mean we really are giving the skin exactly what it needs. Low quality ingredients, fillers, parabens, SLS's, perfumes, colours and many other nasties are never used. These unnecessary ingredients do not bring anything positive to the skin, yet damage and interrupt skin cells and functions.

Why does Prologic have a focus on maintaining essential fatty acids?

Prologic is about creating a healthy and strong skin structure. The natural acid mantle (protection layer) is made up of a high percentage of lipids (oil). When the acid mantle is not intact, we say that the barrier function is impaired. Essential fatty acids are a hugely important step in repairing this barrier. We are particularly passionate about Omega 3, every cell in your body needs Omega 3 to function - this includes every single skin cell. Our bodies do not produce any Omega 3, so 100% of our requirements come from internal and topical use. Essentially fatty acids help produce a healthy epidermis and the epidermis contains some of the skins most important cells, so looking after it is paramount.

What is Prologic’s power product? Why?

Many of our products are what I call "Power Products", this is because of the way we formulate - as pure as possible. Within the range there are 10 products that are what we call "Pure", these products are either 99% actives with the 1% inactive being water or are totally 100% active. They do not contain any other ingredients that do not have a positive direct effect on skin cells and structure.

These 10 products are...

Plus 2 professional only products.

What is your number one tip for skincare novices?

It's never to early or to late to have healthy skin. Education is the best way to achieve this, do your research and get advice from a qualified Skin Expert. Someone that offers a full Skin Analysis consultation, if possible using imaging and skin reading devices to ensure the best understanding of your skins individual needs. Also start slowly, ensure your "barrier function" is healthy and intact before starting any "treatment products", if not the products will not be effective and could actually make your skin worse.

What is next for the brand?

We are always about education, this year we focus on training and educating our stockists to the highest possible standard. I have always said skin care is not about selling, but about educating. As we are a reasonably new brand we are working hard to share our story, why we are different and spreading the word about treating skin the "Prologic" way. The range continues to grow, with another 3 products currently in formulation in the lab.
