It looks like the hot new thing in beauty is celebrity cosmetics, with everyone from Kim Kardashian and Madonna to David and Victoria Beckham recently releasing beauty lines.
Now, there are two more celebs to add to that list.
As reported by TMZ, both Pharrell Williams and Serena Williams have filed for beauty trademarks. Pharrell is reportedly planning to capitalise on his album title ‘G I R L’ – launched four years ago – by launching a series of consumer products under the same name.
The ‘Girl’ trademark was filed this year, giving Pharrell the green light to put "Girl By Pharrell Williams" and "Pharrell Williams Girl" on clothing, lingerie, jewellery, athletic gear, luggage and cosmetics. This venture won’t be the singer’s first foray into beauty as he already has a unisex perfume line, developed and distributed by Comme des Garçons.
Serena Williams has also filed to trademark ‘ANERES’ – “Serena” spelled backwards – and while the name was first trademarked in 2003 so that the tennis star could label a clothing line, the new patent allows the singer to include: skincare, cosmetics and makeup kits, colognes and perfumes, lotions, body washes, hair products (including normal and dry shampoos), hair sprays, and hair gels.
Both celebs are yet to comment on the rumoured cosmetics lines, so watch this space.
Editor's note: Since writing we have learned that J.Lo is also launching a beauty line. Read all about it here.
