Snapchat has announced its first out-of-app launch since 2016’s ‘Snapchat Spectacles’ – a brand new program called Yellow.
Yellow is a startup accelerator/incubator for content creators. The app has ultimately described it as a “launchpad for creative minds and entrepreneurs who are looking to build the next generation of great media companies.
“We are excited about the future of storytelling and the creators who will push the artistic boundaries of what's possible with mobile content.
“Yellow will help you shorten the time it takes to turn your brilliant idea into reality.”
Not just limited to startups, the program is also open to recent uni grads, someone currently working for a media company, an influencer, or someone interested in creating mobile-first content.
Snapchat will invest $USD150,000 in funding for each team (or individual) accepted into Yellow, with a total of ten spots available. Acceptance into the program also includes a three-month residency at Snap’s office space in Venice, California.
While little else is known about the program, if you want to apply the projects Snap has outlined it is looking for are in the areas of augmented reality, interactive experiences on mobile, and narrative storytelling. However, other ideas are welcome and all categories from beauty to travel are considered.
