We know it can be overwhelming choosing the best products for your child, which is why BD aims to make it a whole lot easier.
Below, the team (and their little ones) have road-tested some of the market's most reputable beauty products.
QV Gentle Wash - Tamara
What it is: A low foaming cleanser that is specifically formulated for dry, sensitive or compromised skin and is mild enough to use on the face and entire body.
My experience: QV Gentle Wash has been a staple in my home since the birth of my son almost eight years ago. After trying a number of products that seemed to irritate his skin, we set off to ask the doctor what to do and he recommended using a soap free wash such as QV – we never looked back. QV Gentle Wash is dermatologist recommended and perfect for anyone with sensitive skin (which the skin of children tends to be). It is fragrance free, pH balanced, dermatologically tested and is free from soap, colour, lanolin, and propylene glycol. Perfect for newborns, all the way through to adults with sensitive skin.
TONI&GUY Bamboo Brush Collection - Detangling Comb - Tamara
What it is: A 100% biodegradable, 100% recyclable, vegan friendly, cruelty-free hair comb made from sustainable bamboo.
My experience: The Toni & Guy Bamboo Detangling Comb is a great alternative to a plastic comb as it is biodegradable and is not made of plastic like most other combs which makes it kind to the environment. It is wide toothed and is a great family all rounder. I used it to comb a leave in treatment through my hair after showering and also daily when detangling my daughter's knotted hair each morning.
sebamed Children’s Shampoo - Alicia
What it is: A soap free children’s shampoo.
My experience: Sebamed Children’s Shampoo is great for babies and toddlers. My three year old has long hair so washing it is always challenging. Using this product makes my life so much easier as its “no tears” formula allows me to wash it out without it stinging her eyes which means I don’t have her screaming down the house. It also leaves her hair tangle free so it is easy to comb through post wash and with it being soap free and alkali-free, her scalp is also left hydrated.
Weleda Calendula Baby Face Cream - Rachel
What it is: A face cream for babies that is formulated with organic calendula extract, which has a protective mantle around tender facial skin, while skin-friendly lanolin and organic almond oil moisturise.
My experience: This is such a beautiful product for babies; one I never knew I needed until now! It has a refreshing, yet comforting citrusy scent that I love to inhale on bub’s cheeks once applied. The cream just glides on the skin and completely absorbs into it, leaving bub’s face feeling even more velvety soft. I love that this cream contains only natural ingredients as knowing no nasties are going on bub’s precious skin is important to me. The formula is enriched with organic calendula to gently protect and soothe the skin; with lanolin and organic almond oil to further prevent the skin from drying out. It’s a powerhouse of truly beneficial, natural ingredients. I’ve also loved using this cream on myself, over some dry spots I’ve had pop up over the cooler days and it always works a treat! This is definitely a newfound staple and the sturdy packaging makes it perfect to take everywhere in your baby bag.
Absolute Essential Twinkle Star - Bianca
What it is: A bedtime blend that encourages sweet dreams and restful sleep, encouraging the calmness and relaxation necessary for deep sleep.
My experience: Having a seven month old baby girl who's decided that sleep is overrated I have found this product works small miracles with aiding our nighttime sleep routine. The essential oil blend combines lavender, orange, eucalyptus, mandarin and chamomile to create an inviting combination of scents. I’ve been using the product in a diffuser prior to bedtime and this seems to create a more soothing atmosphere for bub. I love that the product is free from nasties and is natural/organic – something that I have paid close attention to when choosing products for my little one.
