This means people will be looking for new ways to clean, hydrate and clear their skin and hair by relying on some not-so-ordinary beauty products.
So whether it’s experimenting with a fringe to elevate your hairstyle, or using products to help clear maskne, here are the biggest beauty trends of the year, according to Trendalytics.
Beauty trends
1. Cleancore
It seems clean is in, with searches for cleancore being up 222% and double cleansing up 85%.
2. Anti-acne
Thanks to the pandemic, many people are now looking for ways to combat maskne – aka acne caused by face masks. Searches for maskne have increased by 28,150%, acne dot by 50%, and acne serum by 156%.
3. Sustainable cycle
Say goodbye to wasteful periods – people are searching for eco-friendly sanitary products for a waste-free cycle. Searches for reusable period pads are up 77% and menstrual cup is up 32%.
4. Fringes
Prepare to see a lot of fringes this year, with below-the-brow styles being the next big thing. Searches for curtain fringes grew by 1,050% and long bangs by 15%.
5. Active acids
In 2021, People will be putting their best face forward with acids. Searches for mandelic acid are up by 96%, polyhydroxy acid by 67%, and salicylic acid by 66%.

2. Call of the wild
Whether they’re hiking, sprinting up hills or simply getting outside, 2021 is all about reconnecting with nature. Searches for outdoor training are up 32% and everesting are up 128%.
3. Self love
At the forefront of the sexual wellness revolution are next-gen apps and celeb-backed product lines. Searches for sexual wellness are up by 41%.
4. Life online
Looking to unload some stress after the whirlwind year that was 2020? People are discovering digital ways to become more grounded and less anxious. Searches for virtual therapy have increased by 121% and virtual yoga by 505%.
5. Digital overload
With life currently more virtual than ever, blue light protection is becoming increasingly popular. People are looking for products, treatments and practices to alleviate the damage caused by their digital devices. Searches for blue light glasses are up by 114% and blue light protection by 72%.
