Just weeks after merging with its new owner BuzzFeed, HuffPost Australia has closed down.
The homepage of the website states:
"As of March 17, HuffPost Australia will no longer be publishing content. Existing content will be maintained as an online archive; however, certain site features have been permanently disabled. For more great global content, please visit HuffPost.com. We thank you for your support and readership."
Editor, Alicia Vrajal also confirmed the news via Twitter.
"Some sad news today - this will be my last week at HuffPost Australia. As part of the global redundancies across the brand, HuffPost Australia won’t have a local team after Friday," said Vrajal.
The announcement follows reports that BuzzFeed, which reached a deal with Verizon Media in November last year to acquire HuffPost, is laying off 70 HuffPost employees, including 47 in the US, according to AdNews.
