Next Gen backstage report - Tuesday June 1, 2021
HAIR BY:
Redken Australia creative director, Tracey Hughes
ghd leading creative artist and curl master, Rumbie Mutsiwa
INSPIRATION:
"We’ve got two fabulous looks going on here," said Hughes. "How we’ve created these looks is a juxtaposition of smooth, sleek shine with our ponytail and also with our dishevelled texture as well. Our hero product of the day is Redken Fashion Work. It’s beautiful to be able to re-dress the hair when you’re actually changing the looks, about to hit the runway for the second time."
Mutsiwa added, "These are two amazing looks that are fresh, understated and timeless. When working with texture, I love using the ghd Helios Professional Hair Dryer and their attachments as they give me choice, whether I want hair straight, stretched or naturally curled. I always work with ghd tools as I can work with any curl texture. What else could a girl ask for?”
GET THE LOOK - ghd:
LOOK 1:
Low side part with sleek shine. Ponytail with soft curl.
Any textured hair models had either side part and smooth ponytail, or sleek cornrows
1. PREP
Section a low side part and do a smooth directional blow dry using the ghd Helios Professional Hair Dryer.
2. DRY
Generously spray ghd Final Shine Spray through the top of the hair only, and then brush through with a ghd Oval Dressing Brush.
3. STYLE
Using a tint brush, apply gel to the top root area only and comb through using the ghd Tail Comb.
Brush the hair smooth into a ponytail sitting in the nape area just below the occipital bone, then secure the ponytail using hat elastic and wrap a piece of hair around the elastic.
Set the mid lengths and ends of the ponytail with ghd Curl Hold Spray using a ghd Curve Classic Curl Wave Wand and then allow the hair to cool. Finish using ghd Final Fix Spray.
LOOK 2 (For straight hair):
Natural textured, voluminous waves with a centre part, very undone.
Any textured hair models – natural afro working with texture.
1. PREP
Protect your hair and maximise styling results with ghd Bodyguard Heat Protect Spray – ghd’s number one best-selling product.
Beginning at the bottom nape and working up the head, take horizontal sections 5cm wide with the iconic ghd Curve Classic Curl Wave Wand. Use a vertical technique, alternating the direction with each section.
2. DRY
Allow the hair to cool and carefully comb through the curls using a ghd Detangling Comb
3. STYLE
Tuck half of the hair behind the ears and secure with a bobby pin. Pull the waves apart with the fingers to create a dishevelled effect and finish with a generous spray of ghd Curl Hold Spray.
LOOK 2 (For curly and afro textures):
1. PREP
Detangle the hair and use a leave-in spray and a mousse to moisten the hair, such as the ghd Root Lift Spray. Then apply a curl defining cream or hydrating gel and define with your fingertips.
2. DRY
Use the ghd Helios Professional Hair Dryer and the ghd Hair Dryer Diffuser to dry off the hair, ensuring hair is 70% - 80% dry. Gently break up the curl for volume and texture using your fingers.
Use the ghd Helios Professional Hair Dryer and the comb attachment at the roots to add length if needed (only in the body not the hairline).
3. STYLE
Gently mist the hair with ghd Final Fix Hairspray to finish.
