Celebrities may be influencing what we wear, how we do our hair and what beauty products we buy, but when it comes to cosmetic procedures A-listers have little pulling power.
A survey of more than 500 Australians by the Cosmetic Physicians Society of Australasia in partnership with www.YoungerYou.com.au found that peers, partners and the media have little influence on whether people get treatment.
Seventy-five per cent of respondents that have elected for a cosmetic treatment revealed they were not influenced by anyone when deciding to get it done.
Reasons for going ahead with non-surgical cosmetic procedures included feeling better about myself” with 57 per cent, increasing my confidence” on 49 per cent and being competitive in my job” at 15 per cent.
It’s clear that most Australians are self-motivated to undergo cosmetic procedures, as an individual choice, and some are having these treatments to feel more confident in themselves,” says Dr Gabrielle Caswell, President of the CPSA.
While 25 per cent of survey recipients admitted that looking attractive to their partner was an important factor in their decision to undergo a non-surgical cosmetic procedure, only 1.2 per cent said their partner influenced their decision.
Could anyone influence your decision to undergo cosmetic surgery?
