One Brisbane-based beauty brand is relishing the power of social media this week, having sold out of a single product in just six minutes after it was featured on two influential Instagram accounts.
Fanny Barlow who owns Mermaid Salon can officially call her Chubby Mermaid Carve and Contour Paddle Brush a cult product following a reposting frenzy on the social media platform. Among the bloggers who helped catapult the makeup brush into must-have territory were @slave2beauty who has 1.9 million followers and @makeupslaves who has 1.3 million followers. Shortly afterwards the mermaid-inspired brush was picked up by international media and the rest, they say, was history.
The product is currently on preorder for the fifth time and it looks as though Barlow doesn't plan to stop there. She told Vogue that businesses like hers who peak in a very short time should remain agile and ride the wave the wave of success.
"We haven't stopped to be be like 'yay,' we haven't done anything but process orders and answer emails. Celebrate after, the work's not done until it's done. People have trusted you with their money in presales so do your best to answer their emails and stay on top of everything and probably, yeah, order more!”
