With a recent study by The University of Queensland revealing some startling facts about the power of SPF, skincare company has been inspired to educate the nation on skin cancer and ageing prevent with its #allaboutSPF campaign.
The University of Queensland study found SPF is a powerful anti-ageing creation, with the daily application of SPF30+ on 903 adults under the age of 55 revealing no detectable increase in skin ageing - even after four and a half years.
On the back of this research, Alpha-H is supporting The University of Queensland’s skin cancer research projects by donating $2 from every one of the brand’s TGA-approved suncare products sold. There will also be a range of discounts and free gifts on offer as part of Alpha-H’s suncare range.
Alpha-H CEO Michelle Doherty explains: “Every day I am asked about cosmetic solutions to sun ageing, with people wanting to erase the damage caused from years in the sun. Along with The University of Queensland, Alpha-H wants to be part of the movement to educate Australians on preventing sun damage and ultimately skin cancer. This movement starts with daily sunscreen use.”
Deputy director of development at the University Josie Hackworth is thankful for the brand’s contribution: “Australia still has the highest incidence of skin cancer in the world and melanoma is the most common cause of death in people under the age of 34. While people’s behaviours are changing, there is still a huge amount of education and research into this area needed. With the support from Alpha-H, we are able to provide essential support to further crucial research that examines the treatment and prevention of skin cancer.”
The University of Queensland study revealed 80 per cent of skin ageing and damage is caused by everyday sun exposure, with 66 per cent of Australians diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70. A further third of the population don’t know to check the use-by date on their sunscreen, with two thirds confirming they were unaware the effectiveness of sunscreen deteriorates when stored above 25 degrees. Only 15 per cent of people are applying the recommended amount of sunscreen for effective protection.
Alpha-H's All About SPF campaign launches on November 1.
