While scarring isn’t traditionally seen as the most glamorous affliction, one woman is attempting to change the way people view their scars.
Photographer Sophie Mayanne has created a photography social media campaign called Behind The Scars in order to celebrate scarring and the stories behind them. Mayanne began capturing the scar portraits and stories in April last year, and has since collected over 300 stories from men, women and children from all over the world.
Speaking to GLAMOUR about the series, Mayanne said: "The series depicts portraits that are both beautiful and empowering, alongside moving stories that capture each sitter's unique, raw and emotionally fraught experiences.
"From surgical scars, to accidents - each photo is an act of defiance, self love, worth and positivity."
You can check out each story at the Behind The Scars Instagram.
