Here, BD breaks down three emerging beauty trends that are need to know.
Biotulin
It’s been touted as the “organic alternative to Botox” and counts Kim Kardashian and Michelle Obama as fans, but what is it? Biotulin is a natural, topical gel with the key ingredient being spilanthol, a local anesthetic obtained from the extract of the plant acmella oleracea. According to the brand, it delivers the similar line-smoothing results that Botulinum Toxin (Botox) can, but "unlike needle injections it does not numb your face or restrict your facial expressions".
“After just 30 days of continual use, both the depth and length of wrinkles showed a marked reduction - skin was generally smoother and firmer, " says the website, and the powerful claims are undoubtedly helping the product’s rapid popularity.
Although dermatologists are currently sceptical, with such powerful celebrity endorsement the product is proving itself to be one to watch.
Probiotics
We know that probiotics are essential for maintaining a healthy digestive system, however they could also be essential for maintaining healthy skin. It turns out that more and more brands are catching wind of the notion that happy skin starts on the inside, and the positive effects of bacteria consumed via yoghurt or supplements is definitely helping.
"Both [internal and external application] have been shown to affect the skin in a significant way," says Dr. Whitney Bowe, a US dermatologist who has published key studies in support of her claims. "For antiaging, and also to help with chronic skin conditions—things like acne, rosacea, and eczema."
Look out for probiotics popping up in everything from supplements (i.e. The Beauty Chef Glow Inner Beauty Powder) to skincare.
New Wash
According to Hairstory founder Michael Gordon: “Shampoos – all of them, from $2 to $100 – are all just detergents. They say sulfate-free, phosphate-free, this-and-that-free, but they don't tell you the real truth. The real truth is that detergent, in any form, is damaging to hair. Detergent is why you think you need conditioner; detergent is why you think you need a masque.”
It’s a powerful claim, but the reason why he developed Hairstory’s own version of shampoo: New Wash. New Wash is a cleansing gel that will supposedly remove all other products from your routine, as the “proprietary blend of essential oils and naturally derived saturated cleansers respects the body’s natural moisture barrier that detergent in shampoo destroys”.
Currently the “anti-shampoo” is blowing up the internet and already has raving reviews online; so considering it was also launched by Bumble & Bumble’s co-founder, the product is inevitably about to start a big trend.
