Jurlique pledges proceeds to environmental causes

This May, Jurlique will be launching an Exclusive Edition Activating Water Essence+ in partnership with 1% for the Planet, a global organisation that exists to ensure our planet and future generations thrive. With this partnership Jurlique will donate 1% of the proceeds of the Exclusive Edition Activating Water Essence+ to WWF-Australia’s Regenerate Australia program, creating positive change.

As Jurlique products are reliant on a healthy environment, they are always committed to sustainable practices and nourishing the earth. At the Jurlique farm, the brand has installed a complete solar power production system, so it can use clean energy as much as possible.

Jurlique's commitment to sustainability is as strong as it was on day one, and this commitment only continues to grow with its pledge to 1% for the Planet.

Introducing the newest Aussie skincare brand

Say hello to etch&ethos, a new range of natural^, ethical and sustainable skincare from family-owned Australian business, Ego Pharmaceuticals.

Containing 94 per cent naturally derived ingredients^, all etch&ethos washes, lotions and refills are made in Melbourne, Australia with 50 per cent recycled milk bottle plastic.

Launching with the Hydrating Body Wash and Nourishing Body Lotion, the etch&ethos range is formulated in line with Ego’s ethos of science and quality, whilst minimising the mark we inevitably etch into the planet.

To achieve this, etch&ethos partnered with Pact Group, one of the biggest packaging manufacturers in Australia, and worked together to design the packaging, helping divert around 200,000 used milk bottles from landfill*.

etch&ethos are also the first in Australia to have a label made from ForestFilm, a material made from paper manufacturing waste.

Available in two fragrance options, fresh and bright ‘Summer Citrus’ and floral ‘Botanical Bloom’, etch&ethos can be found in pharmacies and online via www.etchandethos.com.

OLAY launches its first-ever free recycling program

OLAY has today launched its first-ever free national recycling program for all-brands of skincare products. Australians can now ship back their used skincare empties for free - to be recycled through TerraCycle.

With 68 million facial skincare products sold in Australia[1] in the past year, OLAY’s program will provide an industry-wide solution for the majority of skincare products that are destined for landfill, giving skin care products a second life with TerraCycle.

General Manager of TerraCycle Australia, Jean Bailliard said the scale of the program is set to positively impact the environment.

“The main reason beauty products aren’t recyclable is due to the complex nature of the packaging. If you take a bottle of moisturiser, there might be one type of plastic for the bottle, a combination of plastic and metal for caps and a spring-loaded pump for functional use. The variety of materials makes it harder to recycle because the cost of labour required to manually identify, separate, clean and sort the components is too great.

“OLAY’s new program is set to make a significant difference for the environment by taking on the recycling of all brands of skincare products - a huge feat!”

The skin care products will be broken down in Australia and sold onto third-party manufacturers to be given new life as useful items such as garden furniture, bench tops and decking.

Endi Asmira Brand Director, Skin Care ANZ at OLAY said the new initiative follows a conscious move from the brand to take greater responsibility for the environment.

“As Australia’s leading skincare brand, we’re proud to be partnering with TerraCycle, to ensure empty skincare products don’t end up in landfill. Rather than throwing away empty cleanser, cream and toner containers, consumers can now ship them to TerraCycle for recycling for free.”

This program is part of Olay’s parent company, P&G Beauty’s Responsible 2030 goals to be 100% recyclable by 2030. By 2025, P&G Beauty aims to have 90% of its major packaging platform to be fully recyclable or reusable across its beauty brands.

HOW IT WORKS:

Consumers can recycle their used Olay product (or any skincare product) by consolidating their empties in any available box, creating an account with TerraCycle, then downloading and printing a free shipping label for the recycling program. Consumers can head to their nearest Australia Post Office to drop off the box.

Alternatively, consumers can also look for a TerraCycle Community Collection Hub to drop of their empty skincare products.

Plastic, glass pots, bottles, pumps, sprays, products with complex closures, flexible tubes, packets, pouches, lids, caps and droppers, can all be recycled via TerraCycle.

For more information on how you can recycle through OLAY’s Free Recycling Program please visit: TerraCycle and OLAY free Recycling Program.
