Justin Bieber has proven wrong critics who condemned the idea of a female fragrance fronted by a 17-year-old boy.
Bieber’s debut fragrance Someday netted more than $US3 million in retail sales at Macy’s in less than three weeks, WWD reports. Some experts are even labelling it as the most successful celebrity fragrance launch in history.
According to Karen Grant, vice president and senior global industry analyst of The NPD Group, Someday has the potential to be the number-one-selling fragrance of 2011. We haven’t seen anything like it since [Jennifer Lopez’s] Glow and [Britney Spears’] Curious.”
In other tween-fragrance news, Elizabeth Arden is hoping to tap into Taylor Swift’s star appeal with her first scent, Wonderstruck.
Falling in love is a moment every girl daydreams about and Wonderstruck represents that magical feeling of promise and hope and intrigue,” the 21-year-old country singer said of the fragrance. It was fascinating to learn that you can layer so many different scents to create a beautiful end result.”
Arden plans to use Swift’s social-media presence to maximise sales of the fragrance. The company is preparing an extensive sampling campaign via Facebook, in an effort to reach her 23 million Facebook fans.
