Trailblazing hair care brand, BREAD Beauty Supply has been acquired by CODB Holdings, a creative services and investment platform launched by Topicals CEO, Olamide Olowe and president, Sochi Mbadugha.
This acquisition marks the first step in CODB’s mission to build and scale brands at the intersection of culture, community, and commerce, setting a new standard for what the future of consumer products should look like.
As part of the acquisition, BREAD founder, Maeva Heim will remain with the brand as chief creative officer (CCO), continuing to drive the brand’s creative vision and product innovation.
Additionally, Olowe and Mbadugha will serve as strategic advisors, while a newly appointed leadership team will manage the brand’s day-to-day operations.
"At a time when DEI commitments are being rolled back, it’s critical that Black-owned businesses not only survive but thrive," said Olowe.
"Maeva Heim, BREAD’s founder, is one of the most talented creatives in the space and has led BREAD to have a major impact in the hair care industry."
"With CODB’s resources and expertise, we’re ensuring that it continues to grow while remaining deeply rooted in its mission and creative ethos."
Black consumers spent $10.2 billion on beauty and hair care last year, yet Black-owned brands receive a fraction of industry investment.
CODB’s acquisition of BREAD drives growth for both brands while maintaining their authenticity and commitment to the consumers they serve.
With CODB’s backing, BREAD will expand into 100 new Sephora locations across the US this month and all Ulta Beauty stores by the end of April.
