She's been helping out in the beauty and lifestyle department at ELLE Australia since January last year, but Amber Elias is set to become a more prominent fixture on the Australian beauty media scene, with news she’s been appointed to the beauty assistant position at OK!/NW.
Effective immediately, Elias will be joining OK!/NW senior beauty editor Laura Wilson in looking after the beauty pages across both magazines.
BEAUTYDIRECTORY caught up with Elias to chat about the new role and her media career.
Can you tell me a bit about your career to date?
While I was studying a BA in communications at UTS, I was interning at Shop Til You Drop, then GQ, then RUSSH. I started interning in the beauty department of ELLE last year, and stayed on after finishing my degree at the end of 2014.
What attracted you to the role at OK!/NW?
The fast-paced nature of weeklies definitely drew me in, and of course the beauty department. Working with new products every week as well as on trend pages means you can connect with readers in an immediate way, and give them the latest and greatest beauty news.
Have you always been interested in the beauty media world?
Yes, absolutely. I remember reading my mum’s magazines when I was younger, and getting a Teen Vogue subscription for my thirteenth birthday. The beauty pages were always the first to be torn out and stuck up on my wall.
What will your role involve?
It’ll mostly involve helping Laura with shoots, organising the beauty cupboard and calling in products.
What excites you most about the role?
So many things! Content has a fast turnaround at OK!/NW, so copy has to be tight and everything has to be organised. I’m looking forward to contributing to the beauty pages and giving readers the best trends, how-tos and celebrity beauty news.
