The New York Times has taken its first steps into developing an Australian-based team, announcing a hunt for its first local journalist. The American newspaper has released a job advertisement which suggests the hire will be the first of a growing base Down Under.
A job ad states the newspaper is eager to hire “someone with a deep knowledge of Australia and a passion for covering the issues that resonate both with Australians and our global audience.” The role will “focus on enterprise reporting from Australia for our readers around the world, but will also seek to build the Times’ audience in Australia.”
Continues the description: “The ideal candidate will be a player-coach who will supervise and guide a small team of journalists also working on news and enterprise from Australia; work with potential editorial partners in Australia, including on investigative projects; and team up with other Times correspondents, who we hope will be visiting Australia more frequently.”
