Prestige beauty sales rise online

Chanel, (Clinique NZ), Clarins (Clarins NZ) and (La Mer NZ) are still the cream of the crop in the UK, with prestige beauty product sales rising rapidly online in the last two years. Market research company The NPD Group has released research showing that online sales of prestige beauty products in the UK saw 35 per cent growth in 2013 compared to 2012, with sales growing at a rate of 43 per cent overall.

The UK prestige beauty market is booming, with the value of online sales amounting to $US173 million in 2013, representing 6.2 per cent of the market. NPD marked Chanel as the best-selling prestige beauty brand online, while the best-selling on and offline combined is Clinique.

Fragrances make up the majority of the products sold online, with the category holding a 51 per cent share in the online market. The value of online fragrance sales grew by 35 per cent in 2013 versus 2012. NPD stated that the UK skincare market is currently valued at $US837 million, and online sales grew by 28 per cent in 2013, with Clinique, Clarins, and La Mer performing on and offline.
