Vice Media has announced it will soon axe 10 per cent of its global workforce, with a Vice Media Australia spokesperson confirming the changes are expected to affect the local market.
Although it’s not yet clear who will be impacted, the confirmation follows a report in The Hollywood Reporter, which said that 250 jobs of the 2,500 person business would be impacted globally.
"Having finalised the 2019 budget, our focus shifts to executing our goals and hitting our marks," Vice CEO, Nancy Dubuc, wrote in a staff memo. "We will make Vice the best manifestation of itself and cement its place long into the future."
The publisher will be restructuring its business in order of priorities, rather than by separate international offices. The five priorities include: the film and TV production unit studios, its international news team, the digital business, the TV operation and its agency, Virtue.
It's not known when Australian staff will be informed of the impact, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, US, UK and Canadian employees have most likely been notified already.
Vice is just one digital publisher that has announced major changes in the last two weeks. Buzzfeed recently went through rounds of redundancies, while fashion, beauty and lifestyle platform, The Pool, revealed it was going into administration on Friday.
