After six-and-a-half years at BEAUTYDIRECTORY, tomorrow sees editor Yelena Fairfax finish up at the company, moving on to pursue a freelance career and launch lifestyle website Husskie. Fairfax has been in the publishing industry since 2006, previously working as the fashion editor at OK! Magazine.
"After working alongside Yelena for the past six years at BEAUTYDIRECTORY, I'm sad to see her leave the site she's grown and the team she's led. Yelena is one of the most talented and hardest working people I know, and while her departure is a loss to us both professionally and personally, I support her and wish her every success with her new business and website," says BEAUTYDIRECTORY general manager Michelle Blancato.
On her departure and new venture, Fairfax reveals: "Words can not explain the incredible time I have had at BEAUTYDIRECTORY. I have learnt so much and I am immensely thankful for all the opportunities I have been given. The BEAUTYDIRECTORY and beautyheaven teams have become like a second family to me and I am honoured to have worked with such a talented group of people.
"That being said, I feel now is the optimal time for me to delve into freelance and the launch of my own website. There are currently a slew of exciting freelance opportunities out there across multiple platforms and specialities – and I believe we're only just beginning to see the onset of this.
"With my website, I have had the idea for it bubbling inside of me for so long now, it's exciting to think I will soon get to share what's been happening behind the scenes. Having worked on the launch or relaunch of six websites for other people and companies, I am thrilled to be now putting together my own vision. And while I decided to tackle the daunting task of developing it on my own, the technical skills I've obtained in the process have been eye-opening. Who would have thought I'd be spending my weekends puzzling over ssh in Terminal and teaching myself how to migrate websites and redirect IP addresses!
"While the launch of Husskie will hopefully see me still get to work with many in the industry, I do just want to say I have loved working with all of you. There are so many incredible and inspiring people in this industry!"
As of Monday October 17, Fairfax will be available for freelance work including website strategy, copywriting, commercial and editorial content writing, press release and e-newsletter creation, social media management – including strategy, styling and creation, brand consultation, book editing, and sub-editing. On top of this, she is also available for photography work – including events, street style and flat-lays.
