Supermodel Hailey Bieber (wife of Justin), has had her plans to launch a beauty range put on hold due to confusion over the trademark 'Bieber Beauty'.
Hailey's cosmetics and beauty trademark was filed in April of this year. A problem has arisen, however, because her husband already filed a trademark under 'Justin Bieber' for fragrances, soaps, hair care, cosmetics and other beauty products back in 2003 – when he was just nine years old.
According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the similarity in names is likely to cause confusion, and so the aforementioned 'Bieber Beauty' trademark has been rejected.
According to Cosmetics Business, the statement from the USPTO read: “Trademark Act Section 2(d) bars registration of an applied-for mark that is so similar to a registered mark that it is likely consumers would be confused, mistaken, or deceived as to the commercial source of the goods and/or services of the parties.”
While 'Bieber Beauty' may have to be put on the back burner, Hailey also filed the trademark 'Hailey Bieber' for fashion products, one month after she got married. It's not known whether or not that request has been approved.
