Last week Instagram made a change to its product that was long overdue – it is now allowing business to schedule its posts.
Previously, business needed to use a third party tool to schedule and publish posts outside of the app. Now, Instagram has introduced a functionality that will undoubtedly garner a sigh of relief from social media managers everywhere.
And while the change could mean bad news for some third parties, support is being added to Instagram’s application programming interface (API) so that social media management platforms like Hootsuite, Sprout Social or SocialFlow now have access to the new functionality.
“The scheduling and publishing of Instagram content has been the number one request for our 16 million customers,” said Hootsuite CEO Ryan Holmes, in a statement. “Now, they can manage large volumes of content, multiple team members and multiple Instagram accounts with ease and security.”
However, this API update means that – for now, at least – post scheduling is something only larger organisations will be able to take advantage of. Unfortunately, if you are a smaller business and don’t use a third-party software program for working with Instagram, you may have to continue to use non-Instagram-aligned apps for post scheduling.
