Major digital names rebrand

It’s been a week of rebranding with Nine Entertainment Co and Instagram both announcing a slew of changes to keep up with their evolving audiences.

First off the bat was Instagram, which debuted a new logo overnight – a pared-down variation of its camera symbol. The logo features a rounded square within which sits a central circle with a background gradient of pinks and purples. In a post on Instagram’s blog the brand explains: “Our updated look reflects how vibrant and diverse your storytelling has become.

“Accompanying the new logo are updates to the app itself. We’ve made improvements to how the Instagram app looks on the inside as well. The simpler design puts more focus on your photos and videos without changing how you navigate the app,” the brand continues, expanding on the minimalist form the feed has now embraced.

Nine has also announced change is ahead – confirming its online news destination will be changed from Ninemsn to Nine.com.au from June. The move will see Nine’s new branding align with the company’s other assets. The brand’s chief digital and marketing officer Alex Parsons says in a statement: “We started a branding process late last year which looked at how we could unify the Nine brand family further. In doing so, we have created a family of brands which consumers both know and trust.”
