According to a new study conducted by Mumbrella, The Works and the UTS Advance Analytics Institute, one in three Facebook users are deleting the platform.
The results come after it was revealed that 3.9 million users have deleted the app in favour for more personal means of social media communication like Whatsapp and Snapchat.
Specifically, the use of these messaging applications has increased by 13% to 11.9 million users compared to the same time last year.
Snapchat increased by 55% to 4.4 million users, WhatsApp jumped 35% year-on-year to 4.5 million users, while Facebook Messenger increased 18% to 10.4 million unique users.
The Works partner Douglas Nicol noted that the move away from Facebook is largely due to millennials' desire to disconnect from ‘friends’ who they have no real connection with in reality.
He also mentioned that the push could potentially be a result of the abundance of ‘fake news’ now showing up on timelines across the platform.
