In great news for the industry, Australian Fashion Week will go ahead in May 2025, driven by the not-for-profit industry body, The Australian Fashion Council with the support of the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.
The news comes as the event's future was left in limbo following IMG’s announcement last month that it would cease operations in Australia.
IMG had previously acquired the event in Australia in 2005.
NSW Jobs and Tourism Minister, John Graham announced that the state government would now fund the event through Destination NSW, and a new steering committee, including Simon Lock, the original founder of Australian Fashion Week, who will oversee the event.
"Fashion week is an essential showcase of one of our largest creative industries, highlighting the depth of talent not only in NSW but throughout Australia," said Minister Graham in a statement.
Australian Fashion Week will be held from May 12 – 16, 2025, at Sydney’s Carriageworks, and the schedule and designers will be announced next year.
