All The Maggies award winners revealed

It’s no secret that sex sells, and WHO proved the age-old saying still rings true with its memorable Sexiest People 2013” cover taking out the top gong at the 2014 The Maggies Magazine Cover of the Year awards. Featuring Redfoo, Ronan Keating, Dannii Minogue and Natalie Bassingthwaighte in bed together, the cover won WHO the coveted cover of the year award for the second year in a row.

Taking a tongue-in-cheek approach to what’s sexy paid off for us. It shows that we’re not afraid to reinvent and evolve,” WHO editor Nicky Briger revealed to the Herald Sun.

Magazine Publishers of Australia (MPA) executive director and judge Mary Ann Azer adds: "Behind WHO's enduring popularity is a unique blend of quality, high impact art direction and its strong editorial integrity. This year’s winning cover caught our eye and the attention of the voters with a cheeky, fun, celebrity-packed concept that was executed brilliantly."

A panel of publishing industry luminaries shortlisted 60 magazine covers for the awards. The vote was then opened to the general public over a five-week period, and more than 75,000 people voted online for their favourite cover.

It was wonderful to see such creativity and so much diversity in the magazine covers we selected. I thought there were some brilliant covers in the running, in a year that presented a consistently high quality. On behalf of the industry, I congratulate the winner, and all the excellent shortlisted publications," says Australian publishing legend and judge Ita Buttrose.
