Despite leaving Elle Australia to take up the editor post at L’Officiel Australia just a month ago, Damien Woolnough has just confirmed his departure from the magazine.
In his official comment Woolnough stated:“ [L’Officiel was] not the right size and cut for me”. He continued: “I love the brand (but we’ve all made the mistake of buying something just because of the label) and wish the Australian title well in finding someone better suited to their unique style. I will especially miss the chance to work with the talented and patient Matthew Paroz and with commercial operations manager Jo Constable.
“This has been a tremendous learning experience. I have treasured the overwhelming support I have experienced and, rather than waste this generous goodwill, I humbly vow to use it in my next endeavour as I search for a more flattering fit. This was to be my dream job but today I’m making room for new dreams.”
CEO and publisher of L’Officiel Australia and New Zealand Dimitri Vorontsov told Mumbrella of the news: “This mutual decision was made on exceedingly good terms as L’Officiel prepares to move ahead in a new direction commercially with new partners. A new structure to support this will be announced in January 2016.”
Woolnough also took the opportunity to confirm that industry colleagues Ken Thompson and Megha Kapoor would not be joining the L’Officiel teams as was rumoured. He said: “My marvellous colleagues and friends Ken Thompson and Megha Kapoor will no longer pursue roles with L’Officiel and L’Officiel Hommes. After much hard work and problem-solving, we are left to dream of the wonders that could have been.”
