A new content app has been making headlines this week following its acquisition by Apple. Texture, is a service that provides access to digital magazine subscriptions for $US9.99 a month and has unsurprisingly been dubbed the 'Netflix of magazines'.
According to various news sources, users of the app will get access to around 160 magazines across Condé Nast, Hearst, KKR, Meredith, News Corp., Rogers Media, and Time Inc. With Apple deepening its interest in becoming a major distributor of news, the acquisition will help to highlight the company's role as a trusted source of content.
"We're excited Texture will join Apple, along with an impressive catalogue of magazines from many of the world's leading publishers," said Apple's senior vice president of internet software and services Eddy Cue, in a press release.
"We are committed to quality journalism from trusted sources and allowing magazines to keep producing beautifully designed and engaging stories for users."
It's thought Texture will also help struggling magazine businesses increase their footprint in the smartphone content category, especially since the likes of Facebook updated their algorithms to reduce the amount of news users see.
