bdTrial: Love that red

The BD team keep things bright as they trial products in the iconic power shade.

 Nail Polish
Before I worked in the beauty industry, when someone said they wanted to find a red lipstick or nail polish - I would nod my head and suggest a couple of my favourites. Now, it becomes an interrogation. Do they want a deep red? A classic red? A rosy red? An orangey red? A pinky red? An auburn red?... The list of possibilities goes on. For me, I’ve found an orange-based red works best for my skin tone. While I have managed to find a few lipsticks that are the perfect shade, it wasn’t until I came across the Colour by TBN Nail Polish in Roman Red that I found the ideal hue for my nails. With this salon-quality nail polish also scratch-proof, quick-to-dry, and super affordable at $2.50 - I think I’ve stumbled across a real winner. - Yelena

I’m a fan of a red lip but not of the maintenance it often requires. The lazy girl’s option is the lip stain - one like Jane Iredale’s. The balm can be slicked onto your pout for a soft hue or layered for something a little more dramatic. Formulated with a handful of natural ingredients including olive and avocado butters and wild rose, the stain softens lips and prevents your pout from drying out during the day. And for those who want to feel a little extra special - the shade of stain adjusts to each individual wearer. - Sarah

I have always thought the colour red screams confidence and independence and let’s face it, who doesn’t want to feel like that? I was excited to trial the Elizabeth Arden Always Red Eau de Toilette for this very reason and its bold musky scent definitely delivered. The mahogany wood and blood orange tones smelt lovely and it lasted all day, making me feel like I could tackle anything. The sleek, stylish bottle is in the shape of a door with shades of black and red which look great in the bathroom. I think I will keep this one around so I can mix up my fragrances! - Laura

I met with an astrologer while on holiday in India many moons ago (because that’s what you do when you’re there), and according to him, red is a colour I need to avoid wearing. Being the little rebel I am, I tried 7th Heaven’s self-heating Red Hot Earth clay mask anyway and I’m glad I did! This is the perfect at-home remedy when you don’t have the time to get to a salon for a facial. Primrose flower extract nourishes and helps maintain healthy skin cells, while cactus extract soothes the skin and ginseng stimulates and conditions for a healthy glow. I loved feeling the heat on my face so this is something I’ll definitely be keeping up! - Sophia

John Frieda
I absolutely love having red hair and always have. The only downside being the constant maintenance it requires and how quickly the colour fades. I feel great when I leave the hairdresser, but after the first wash my vibrant-hued hair quickly dulls in an annoying and expensive cycle. When one of my colleagues suggested I try the John Frieda Colour Gloss, which promised to keep my colour fresh, I was more than keen to give it a go. What a pleasant surprise I got after I dried my hair after using it for the first time to see my colour refreshed and bright! I’ve started using this product once a week and have found I can prolong time between visits to the hairdresser now, all the while sporting rocking red locks. - Diana
