As London Fashion Week comes to a close, and Milan Fashion week begins, we examine the top beauty trends that came from the UK catwalks. Expect to see these looks become big trends with consumers in the coming months.
Braids
Braids kept cropping up during the week, with L'Oréal Professionnel’s Tina Outen creating nomadic, loose braids at Bora Aksu, and Jawara creating tight cornrow-style braids at Peter Pilotto (using KMS).
At Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, Eugene Souleiman gave models half-done braids, intertwined with black string, before leaving them to hang behind models’ ears.

Your hair but better
At Temperly London Moroccanoil paid tribute to the every day women around us, and to capture each models’ character her hair was enhanced to represent its healthy, natural style.
Bold Lips
Bold lips are back, baby. Expect to see plenty of bright reds, pinks, and oranges on pouts as we head into the warmer months.
At Miranda Joyce, models were given bright, bold red lips (using M.A.C); at Fyodar Goldan models had orange pouts; and nearly-neon pink pouts were given to models at Nicopanda by Dominic Skinner using M.A.C.

Rock ’n’ roll evening eyes
Put away your terracotta-coloured eyeshadow and bring out the sparkle – party-ready glitter eye looks were a heavy feature at multiple shows during London Fashion Week. At Simone Rochas models wore a more subtle, understated silver and gold glitter shadow; whereas at Halpern, models wore wildly sparkly, negative-space, rainbow glitter eyeshadow applied by Dazed Beauty creative director Isamaya Ffrench.

Hyper-real nothing
This term was coined at the Alexa Chung show to describe the models with nary a stitch of makeup but an indescribable glow. Lead MUA, Georgina Graham, explained to Harper’s Bazaar UK that each model received an express facial massage with J-beauty products before applying foundation and concealer (if needed), and then a light-coloured dewy concealer (replacing highlighter) placed on the high points of the face.
Try: Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Highlighting and Correcting Pen, Tom Ford Illuminating Highlight Pen, Artiste Point Concealer Brush, Estee Lauder Double Wear Brush-On-Glow BB Highlighter, Lycogel® Breathable Concealer, Lancôme Touche Miracle Highlighter, Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat.
Bare skin
Victoria Beckham veered away from the traditional young things you see at fashion week during her namesake brand’s 10th anniversary show. In addition to the usual lineup, Beckham chose Stella Tennant and Liya Kebede (both in their 40s) to walk. In order to create a makeup look that works for everyone involved, Pat McGrath focused on glowing skin – using lots of hydration products – and minimal foundation.
Similarly, at Roland Mouret legendary MUA Val Garland said “It's more about skin prep than covering it up with foundation.”; and at Markus Lupfer, Thom Walker used a mixture of Bobbi Brown's face base, illuminating balms, and cream blush to achieve the look.

Gold highlighter
At Alice Temperley, Charlotte Tilbury took highlighting to the next level by sweeping gold shades across the cheekbones and inner corners of models’ eyes for a kilowatt shine.
Try: Designer Brands Liquid Gold Jelly Highlighter, Maybelline New York Master Strobing Liquid Illuminating Highlighter, M.A.C Extra Dimension Skinfinish.
Wet, sweaty-looking hair
As unappealing “sweaty-looking” hair can sound, this year’s London runways made it look surprisingly wearable. At Ashish models went to the wet-look extreme as drenched strands hung down in front of the face. Wet hair was also featured at Fashion East and House of Holland, with models wearing a more demure, brushed-back style.
Fresh out of the shower was the brief for Chalayan and Supriya Lele. At Chalayan wet-look hair was slicked back (with two choice strands either side of the face hanging out); and Cyndia Harvey worked with the brief “sweaty, wet hair – straight out of the shower” by giving models chic wet-look chignons.

Bronzed legs
Showing the Spring Summer collections often calls for bronzed pins to match the amount of skin on show. This year, St. Tropez tanning and skin finishing expert Jayne Cooper used the brand’s Instant Tan Gloss at Henry Holland to create a natural, effortless summer glow.
