Three beauty trends from the couture runways

The couture shows in Paris have just ended; so here, BD rounds up the top three beauty trends from the week.

Minimalism
Similar to what was popular during MBFWA, makeup-free skin was everywhere at the couture shows. Proenza Schouler made its Paris debut with models sporting minimalistic makeup – minus an extended brow created by Diane Kendal. Christian Dior also followed the trend, with models wearing barely any product at all.

Some labels chose to use a minimal face with one feature highlighted, as was popular at Fendi, who chose a strong lash, and A.F. Vandervorst.

Smokey eyes
Bold, block colour on the eyes is out; and smokey, soft shadow is in. Tom Pecheux created colourful, smudgy eyes at Chanel; and Linda Cantello created sultry, smokey eyes at Armani Privé. Speaking on the look, Cantello (Giorgio Armani Beauty’s international makeup artist) said: “Mr. Armani wanted a very mysterious woman, so we wanted to do a shadowy eye that had no hard lines. So it’s this kind of air of mystery. It is like a veil of colour.”

Bold lips
While last season’s lips were all about a having a smudged-out, freshly kissed look, this couture season was focused on a clean, bold, statement lip.

Everyone from Dolce and Gabbana – who painted model’s lips with burgundy, bright orange, and red – to Viktor & Rolf embraced the trend. At John Galliano for Maison Margiela Artisanal, Pat McGrath created fantastical looks on the models using her new matte lipstick collection, Lust Matte Trance.
