bdBLOG: An amazing blow-dry…without styling products

Late last week, I made my way to Circular Quay to check out the pop-up salon set up by Keratinology by Sunsilk and marie claire. I arrived outside Customs House to find a film-location Winnebago, transformed into a luxurious hair salon.

Hairstylist Mark greeted me, and guided me to the basins, where he introduced me to the products he’d be using to style my hair that day – the new Keratinology by Sunsilk range.

Formulated with Keratin Micro Technology, the collection is made up of eight products: Advanced Reconstruction shampoo and conditioner, a heat protector spray, an overnight treatment and hair spa mask, as well as a Colour Therapy shampoo and conditioner and Colour Therapy Glossy Mask. For my coloured hair, Mark would be using the Keratinology by Sunsilk Sun-Kissed Colour Therapy Shampoo and the Express Treatment Conditioner.

In what made for a real challenge for him, Mark was only using products from the range – hence, no mousse or styling products when it came to the blow-dry. I normally don’t enjoy a blow-dry, mainly because I always seem to come out of the salon feeling as though I look like a particularly buoyant Elizabeth Montgomery at the height of Bewitched fame. In fear of it happening again, I asked Mark if he could dry my hair with some curl in it, and I have to say, he did an exceptional job. If he wasn’t a freelance hairstylist I’d track him down in whichever salon he was in and have the results produced again. If he could do that with just a shampoo and conditioner, he has proven himself one talented hairstylist.

Treated to a glass of bubbly and a couple of macaroons, I felt like I’d been given an experience on par with any of Sydney’s best salons (albeit in a slightly smaller space). Better still, I was sent home with a bag full of the Keratinology by Sunsilk range and the latest issue of marie claire.

Members of the general public can experience the Keratinology by Sunsilk pop-up salon for as little as $20. Having finished its stint in Circular Quay, the Winnebago can now be found in front of Parramatta Town Hall today, Friday, and next week on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th November.

The Keratinology range is currently available nationwide.
